Our favorite Instagram posts of the Blue Whale art exhibit on Crissy Field

Did you hear the really BIG news? From October 2018 to March 2019, an artful, artificial leviathan landed on Crissy Field. The Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Blue Whale art exhibit on Crissy Field challenged everyday visitors to examine their plastic consumption and the health of our oceans.

As we bid a big ole blue adieu before it begins its nationwide tour (the whale’s last day on Crissy Field will be March 17), we collected our favorite Instagram posts from its time at the shores of the Golden Gate.

Fact: by 2050, by weight there will be more plastic than fish in our oceans. This whale is made completely out of hand processed recycled plastic - 800 plastic tiles make up her skin. If you’re in SF, go check her out! Thx @building180, @joeldeanstockdill, @yustinaa, @presidiosf @hub_sanfrancisco and @montereybayaquarium for having the courage to make this project happen! link in bio ... ... ... @coleboscoe and I went out there till 3 am and got into the belly of this monsta to stick a bunch of lights in it.
