Volunteers & staff celebrate Diwali at Lands End!

When: Saturday November 2nd, 10 am–1 pm;

Where: Presidio Tunnel Tops–specific meeting location will be listed in the registration confirmation email. Registration is required;

Inspired by the book and title, ‘What Kind Of An Ancestor Do You Want To Be’, park staff invite you to a community program to explore this bold and reflective question and find ways to deepen our connection with nature, culture and each other! Please join us at the newly opened Presidio Tunnel Tops as we observe Diwali and Día De Los Muertos, learn about their origins, and how history can shape our present and future. We will start the morning with planting, followed by interactive arts and crafts activities, sharing special food treats, and a storytelling session inspired by the book.

Everyone is welcome to join and learn about these special celebrations, and how they bring us closer to our more than human world and to each other!

Preparing for This Program:

  • For our Dia de los Muertos celebration, we will be creating an altar/Ofrenda. If you feel called to do so, we invite you to bring a photo(s) of loved ones you have lost and whose energy and memories/sentimental objects you would like to bring to the program. You are also welcome to bring decorations that you would like to use for the altar.

  • You are also welcome to bring a diya or a candle to observe Diwali.

AGE, SKILLS, WHAT TO BRING:

  • Volunteers of all ages are welcome. Read our Youth Policy Guidelines (PDF) for youth under the age of 15.

  • Wear clothes that can get dirty. Long pants and closed-toe shoes are required. Bring layers for changing weather and rain gear if necessary.

  • Bring a personal water bottle and sunscreen.

  • No experience necessary. Training and tools will be provided. Fulfills community service requirements.
