Mt. Tam Astronomy Night - The All-American Total Solar Eclipse of August 2017 - Hosted by Friends of MT. Tam
Featuring: Alex Filippenko, Professor of Astronomy, UC Berkeley
Host: Friends of Mt. Tam
A total solar eclipse is one of nature’s most magnificent spectacles. On August 21, 2017, for the first time in 38 years, the very narrow path of a total solar eclipse falls across the continental US. Come learn about total solar eclipses and how to view this one!
One of the world's most highly cited astronomers, Alex Filippenko was the only person to have served on both teams that simultaneously discovered the Nobel-worthy accelerating expansion of the universe. Voted UC Berkeley's "Best Professor" a record nine times, he appears frequently on TV documentaries and is addicted to observing total solar eclipses throughout the globe (15 so far).
The amphitheater is a short walk from the parking lot. Dress warmly, and bring blankets, cushions and a flashlight, along with food and beverage of your choice. Astronomy programs are held monthly from April through October. More program information.
