Ever wondered what’s hidden inside some those historic WWII batteries tucked away in the hills of the Marin Headlands? Here’s your chance to find out!
Join a Ranger-Guided Hike & Program and step inside one of these iconic and historic sites, Battery Townsley...
On this scenic 2-mile round-trip hike, you’ll journey along Old Bunker Road, starting at beautiful Rodeo Beach and winding up to Battery Townsley—where you’ll actually get to go inside and explore!
Along the way, our knowledgeable Park Rangers will share fascinating stories about the Marin Headlands’ rich history, from military secrets to natural wonders. Once up at Battery Townsley you'll be met by our knowledgeable and friendly Battery Townsley Volunteers who will lead you through the interior maze of this underground relic.

Sunday, April 6th | 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM
Details:
• 2-mile round-trip hike with multiple stops
• Includes walking through the interior of historic Battery Townsley!
• All ages welcome; wear comfortable shoes and bring water
Meeting Spot: Find us at the Rodeo Beach Information Station (between buildings 1049 & 1050). Look for the large green tent labeled “Information” and the roadside sign saying, “Ranger Guided Hike/Program.” Our friendly uniformed Rangers will be ready to greet you!
Program starts promptly at 1:00 PM—don’t miss it!
