Your Connections Start in the Parks
Who We Are
Since 1981, the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy has partnered with the National Park Service to protect and enhance the Golden Gate national parks. Together, we help steward 82,000 acres of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA)—one of the largest urban national parks in the world—spanning iconic destinations like Alcatraz Island, Lands End, Crissy Field, and many more. Across 37 park sites, the Parks Conservancy helps transform these landscapes into thriving spaces for nature, history, outdoor recreation, and community connection.
What We Do
As the nonprofit partner to the National Park Service at the GGNRA, the Parks Conservancy has contributed more than $825 million to support park restoration, trails, visitor programs, education initiatives, and public events. Today, the GGNRA is the most-visited national park unit in the United States, welcoming more than 19 million visitors in 2024. Through volunteer programs, youth education, environmental stewardship, and community events, the Parks Conservancy connected with 5.2 million visitors in 2025, helping deepen relationships between people and parks across the San Francisco Bay Area.
