Skyline College students enjoy a day of stewardship at Sweeny Ridge.

Are you interested in supporting the natural world while learning about nature’s relationships, getting to know your fellow classmates, and having fun in your local national park? Join us for a program of stewardship and connection to help build a resilient home for the park’s many local plants and animals. We will provide drinks and snacks!

Below are the opportunities available for Fall Semester 2024.

Description:

We will be working at Sweeny Ridge to help protect the endangered Mission Blue Butterfly. Be prepared to spend the event outdoors in variable weather (bring sunscreen, hat, jackets, long pants, and close-toed shoes). We may take a short hike on or off-trail and work with hand tools while kneeling or sitting on uneven ground. Tools and training are provided. There is no restroom at the meeting location. Please contact Amy at achong@parksconservancy.org with accessibility requests.

Transportation Notes:

We will meet on campus and provide a shuttle up the hill to our project site. Please be prepared to wear a mask inside our vehicles.

Required Forms:

  • New volunteers will need to complete Volunteer Agreement Forms - your project leader will have the forms on-site for you to complete at the beginning of the event.
  • For participants under 18: each participant needs to bring their own Volunteer Agreement Forms with a parent/guardian signature.
    • If a parent/guardian will not be on-site to sign the forms, please reach out to Amy Chong at achong@parksconservancy.org to receive a copy of the agreement form to print, complete, and sign ahead of time.
