Ready to get your steps in and your curiosity sparked?!

Join the National Park Service for a ranger-led hike through the rugged beauty of the Marin Headlands as we ascend to one of the most intriguing—and scenic—historical sites in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.

This 6-mile round-trip adventure isn’t just a workout; it’s a deep dive into the cultural, natural, and military legacy of the region. Along the way, a Marin Headlands Interpretation Ranger will bring the stories of the landscape to life, culminating in a visit to the summit of Hill 88—once the radar eyes of the Nike missile defense system during the Cold War.

Perched high above the Pacific, Hill 88 was home to radar equipment used to detect incoming threats and guide missile launches from nearby Nike Missile Site SF-88L. Today, remnants of the Integrated Fire Control site still stand, offering a powerful vantage point to reflect on this chapter of American history.

Note: This hike features a steady climb and is best suited for participants comfortable with moderate to strenuous activity.
