Stand Up for National Parks Now: How You Can Help

We know you love these national parks and their place in our region, now and into the future, and we need your help ensuring every park is preserved.

Here's what you can do right now to make a difference:

  • Contact elected officials: Visit parksconservancy.org to find your local elected officials and express your support for parks.
  • Visit responsibly: Practice Leave No Trace principles and pack out all your trash to help parks.
  • Volunteer: Find a regular volunteer program in the GGNRA and give back to the parks by maintaining trails, planting, and habitat restoration.
  • Support the parks: Become a Parks Conservancy member and donate to support the parks and ensure our work to protect parks will continue.

The Presidio remains open and welcome to all, and we're proud to support this vibrant national park site where nature, history, and community come together.

  • Every park should feel like home. Join us in breaking down barriers and making nature accessible to everyone. #StandUpForNationalParks
  • Parks are more than just green spaces—they're essential vital resources, offering recreation, education, and environmental benefits to millions each year. The Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA) serves as a lifeline for community health and a refuge for wildlife as part of a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
  • The GGNRA, spanning more than 82,000 acres across San Francisco, Marin, and San Mateo counties, is one of the most visited national park units in the country, often welcoming more than 16 million visitors annually.
  • These parks serve as an outdoor living room—a place where everyone should feel welcome, regardless of background, ability, or experience in the outdoors.
  • Parks are for everyone, but not everyone has historically had the same access to these spaces. That’s why we are committed to breaking down barriers and ensuring all communities feel a sense of belonging in the parks.
  • National parks also play a critical role in conservation, protecting wildlife and ecosystems, and helping communities adapt to climate challenges.
  • The current federal policy changes affecting the Presidio, the National Park Service (NPS), and the Presidio Trust threaten the ability to maintain these parks as vital community spaces.
  • That’s why we need to stand together to ensure our parks remain open, accessible, and welcoming to all.

"We can talk about the legal strings, but the Parks Conservancy is partly about the heart strings. As their nonprofit partner, you can become a member or donate to the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy to ensure that both the National Park Service and the Presidio Trust continue to do all the things we rely on, with those parks as our front yard."

Chris Lehnertz, CEO of the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy

"If we can stand together with parks because we love parks that will make a difference. These places are adored and are a part of our very life here in SF."

Chris Lehnertz, CEO of the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy
