Since 1981, the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy has been the nonprofit partner of the National Park Service, and since 1994, a partner of the Presidio Trust, working to protect and enhance the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA). Spanning 82,000 acres across San Francisco, Marin, and San Mateo counties, these parks—including Alcatraz, Muir Woods, and the Presidio—are more than just scenic places. They’re where communities gather, recharge, and connect with nature and history. The Parks Conservancy helps keep them thriving through youth programs, visitor education, and philanthropic support—like fundraising for the Presidio Tunnel Tops. Alongside our federal partners, we’re dedicated to ensuring these parks remain open, accessible, and protected for generations to come.

The National Park Service’s current budget is funded under a Continuing Resolution that expires on March 14. If a budget deal isn’t reached for the remainder of the fiscal year, we’ll work closely with our partners to prepare for a potential government shutdown. Stay tuned for updates.
