A volunteer strikes a pose while helping to restore Tennessee Valley.

When: Saturday, January 18, 2025 from 10am–1pm

Where: Worksites vary throughout Tennessee Valley; specific meeting location will be listed in the registration confirmation email. Registration is required.

Get your hands dirty while restoring and protecting Tennessee Valley’s native plant communities, which support native wildlife, climate resiliency, and a sense of place on the Bay Area’s rugged coast. We’ll explore beautiful grasslands, coastal scrub, and wetland sites while conducting invasive plant removal, winter planting, and seed collection.

Join the HRT legacy! Volunteers have been stewarding ecosystems in Tennessee Valley since the 1970s, from field-based habitat restoration to growing native plants in the former Tennessee Valley nursery. The Tuesday program is led by staff of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area’s Habitat Restoration Team, which also hosts volunteers on Sundays and Wednesdays.

Groups

Groups of five or more may require special arrangements and must be confirmed in advance. Fill out the Group Project Request Form.

Age, Skills, What to Bring:

  • Volunteers ages 10 and up are welcome. Read our Youth Policy Guidelines (PDF) for youth under the age of 15.
  • Bring your completed Volunteer Agreement Form (PDF). Volunteers under the age of 18 must have the parent/guardian approval section signed.
  • We'll be working rain or shine. Wear clothes that can get dirty. Long pants and closed-toe shoes are required–we recommend canvas or denim pants over synthetic or stretchy materials, which tend to snag on vegetation. Bring layers for changing weather and rain gear if necessary.
  • Bring a personal water bottle, sunscreen, and lunch.
  • No experience necessary. Training and tools will be provided. Fulfills community service requirements.

The Golden Gate National Parks Volunteer Program is a cooperative parkwide effort of the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy, the National Park Service, and the Presidio Trust.
