San Francisco (September 16, 2024) – The Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy, in collaboration with Maven Commercial, is seeking a café or restaurant partner for Pier 31 along San Francisco’s waterfront. This exciting opportunity will reach 1.5 million annual visitors to Alcatraz Island, along with thousands of locals who frequent the area.

Pier 31 is part of the expansion of the Alcatraz Embarkation Plaza. The Parks Conservancy, in partnership with the National Park Service, envisions the plaza as a vibrant hub that highlights the cultural and natural history of Alcatraz and the broader Golden Gate National Recreation Area.

“Alcatraz Island is a major destination for visitors, offering a place to reflect on history and its relevance today,” said Chris Lehnertz, President & CEO of the Parks Conservancy. “The Pier 31 restaurant partner will have a unique opportunity to incorporate this history into the dining experience, creating a meaningful connection between people and parks.”

The 3,760-square-foot venue at Pier 31 will deliver a restaurant shell, features a shared outdoor dining area, and has direct access to shared public restrooms. The selected partner will benefit from 3,000-5,000 daily visitors and passers-by.

“The Pier 31 project is truly unique,” said Catherine Meunier, Partner at Maven. “With its vintage high ceilings and historic details, the space offers instant charm and is nearly move-in-ready. We’re seeking operators who can bring a genuine taste of San Francisco to the waterfront.”

Pier 31 enjoys a prime location on San Francisco’s waterfront, surrounded by excellent public transportation, unique boutiques, and top dining and hospitality options. Nearby landmarks include Pier 39, the Ferry Building, Exploratorium, and the cruise terminal, along with the Transamerica Pyramid, Jackson Square, and North Beach.
