Petal Pushers (Grades 2-3)

How do adaptations help plants survive in their habitats? 
 
Petal Pushers brings student naturalists to one of the Park Nurseries (Presidio or Marin Headlands) for a plant adaptation adventure. Students explore the unique adaptations native plants and their seeds have developed to survive in the Bay Area through hands-on observation and inquiry. A hands-on service project invites students to participate in plant nursery activities such as pot-washing or weeding, highlighting the human connection to the environment. Students see their own roles in cultivating a healthy ecosystem for all living things. 
 
Grades: 2-3 

Structure: 

• Classroom preparation (60 minutes) – lesson in the classroom facilitated by Conservancy staff 
• Field session (3-3.5 hours) – the nursery experience where students engage in hands-on activities as well as explore a nearby park site
