Sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean and the Golden Gate, rugged cliffs, and an astonishing array of plant and animal life await visitors to the Presidio’s western shoreline. A meandering network of trails crisscrosses its hilltops, leads down to its beaches and dunes, and winds among the remnants of what was once the most extensive network of coastal Army fortifications in the U.S.

The Parks Conservancy, National Park Service, and Presidio Trust have been working together for decades on projects to restore the area’s important habitats, improve its trails, and preserve and share its history. These efforts include building the Batteries to Bluffs Trail, creating new visitor overlooks, retiring social trails, and removing invasive trees and plants and planting native species.
