Mt. Tam West Peak Hike - Hydrology of West Peak
Led by Peter Hartsough, Ph. D, UC Davis & Mike Swezy , Watershed Resources Manager, MMWD
Join local hydrologist Peter Hartsough and MMWD staff Mike Swezy to learn more about how the hydrology of West Peak influences the watersheds it feeds, and how geology and climate in turn influence the mountain's hydrology. We'll explore adjacent springs, seeps, and meadows to understand the interconnection of these important resources, as well as what opportunities this presents for the restoration of West Peak. We will meet at the Quarry Lot, and hike approximately 20 minutes up the Mountain Top Trail to explore West Peak and the former Mill Valley Air Force Station. Those interested in a longer hike can continue on with the hike leaders to complete a three mile loop down the Arturo Trail and back the Lagunitas - Rock Springs Fire Road.
Peter Hartsough, Ph. D. ‘s primary research interests involve understanding the complexity of the distribution of water, vegetation, and soils across the landscape.
Mike Swezy is the Watershed Resources Manager for MMWD.
