We celebrated LGBTQIA+ Pride in a big way in 2023! In previous years, staff from across the parks marched in the San Francisco Pride Parade. This year, the Partnership for the Presidio expanded programming with multiple community events at Presidio Tunnel Tops, from a Fantastic Field Day to a site-specific performance by a local dance company celebrating inclusive sports.
The rainbow flag, which was created by a former U.S. Army Medic named Gilbert Baker, also appeared around the Presidio—not far from where the flag’s inventor was stationed in the former military base.
The rainbow flag inspired our very first Pride-themed assortment of park gifts and collectibles, the Parks for All! collection, available at the Presidio Visitor Center, other park stores, and online.
Celebrating LGBTQIA+ Pride outdoors is one way we hope way to make public spaces welcoming for all people and communities. Thank you to everyone who came out, joined in, and shared their Pride in the parks!
