In the Spring of 2023, high school interns of the Inspiring Young Environmental Leaders (I-YEL) program at the Crissy Field Center embarked on a video project tackling food justice issues in their very own communities. Upon investigating the nuanced complications of topics such as food insecurity and food apartheid, the interns were able to pinpoint where these issues exist in their own lives. The project itself was intended to resemble a TikTok format in response to the roaring presence of content made in this style today. By utilizing narration techniques scaffolded in their fall podcast projects, interns were given the opportunity to use their voices to tell stories that were unique to themselves. Some went as far as giving possible solutions to these systemic issues that seem so irreversible. Showcasing the interns’ native languages, ancestral recipes and even Microsoft Paint abilities, the I-YEL 2022-2023 cohort presents, "The Food Project."
