Muir Woods with ranger and kids

It's officially, finally summer! The longest day of the year, June 20th marks the summer solstice, or the astronomical change from spring to summer in the Northern Hemisphere. Around the world, cultures celebrate the extra light and seasonal cycle with time outside from dawn to dusk. At our park, we're celebrating all weekend!

Step into the longest day of the year with our Summer Solstice Walking Storytime led by National Park Service Rangers!

This unique event is tailored for children and families to connect with nature through storytelling and exploration while exploring the enchanting concept of the summer solstice. Meet in the Smart Garden behind the Library and NPS rangers will lead you on a gentle, guided walk through Old Mill Park.

As we journey through the vibrant summer landscape, we'll make several stops where a ranger will read segments of a captivating solstice-themed story. Each stop will offer a new chapter of the tale, providing a seamless blend of adventure, learning, and the beauty of the natural world.
