Long before Alcatraz became a federal penitentiary, this isolated island was home to a US Army Fortress and Military Prison. Join volunteers from the Friends of Civil War Alcatraz for a bi-annual day commemorating life on Fort Alcatraz. Special events will include living history demonstrations, live music, and special walking tours.
